Do you use cruise control?
Not on the motorway, but in life?
Do you adhere to the recommended speed, set it and then give away control?
When your inner critic calls you a failure, stupid or a bad person, do you even notice?
When you see someone giving you a look, do you presume it's because of you - something you've said or the way you look?
When you have an argument with your partner do you use language that you'd be embarrassed of if others overheard you, or do you allow yourself to be spoken to in a nasty manner without question?
Do you ruminate - replay the bad events from the past over and over on eternal repeat? Do you follow the same routine day in and day out with the same dissatisfying results, whether that’s for your mental or physical health?
You're on cruise control.
Switch it off, regain control and be an active participant.
Pause to notice, don't accept less than what you would for your best friend, don't mistreat yourself or others, don't presume everything is about you, and think before you speak - to yourself and others.
Is your cruise control kind? Is it necessary? Is it useful?
Take control and set your own speed, with kindness, consideration and acceptance of beautiful imperfections.
What's the story you tell yourself, and is it helpful or hindering?
But remember - it's your life, your choice!
After all, this is the Manual of YOU!
Until next time, take care, stay safe - and sane - and make kind choices!
